This book appears to be the material that I had expected. I have, however, found some printing-related issues. When I received the book, I was a little taken back by the appearance of the cover. The text is light, and seems poorly aligned with the book. It looks as if the cover has been scanned from a previous printing, and haphazardly reprinted onto this current paperback edition. In addition, a page of the index has been printed upside-down. I have not read the entire text yet, but these appear to be the only issues. I am reading with caution, hoping that those are indeed the only issues.

This book is an excellent and comprehensive review of the prosocial literature up through 2005 and into 2006. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in the field--it is extremely accessible, even for those with a nonacademic background.
I am a graduate student, and my master's thesis/experiment is on prosocial behavior. I can't even imagine how many painful hours of random Google Scholar and PsychInfo searches this book has saved me. The authors literally did hundreds of hours of work FOR me; I feel like I should send them an envelope full of cash... I won't... but I should.
