Te book is OK. . . I was hoping to se more photos of bon voyage parties, families saying goodbye to loved ones as they set-off on an adventure, tours of the ships being offered by the lines, etc. Mostly I saw multiple previously published shots in other ship books.
Nothing new aside from a few questionable statements. There are much better books in print.
Very poor quality of the photo reproductions.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. I HAVENT COME ACROSS A IMAGE OF AMERICA BOOK I DONT LOVE THERE ALL GOOD.
What a great disappointment this book was. The cover picture is so inviting only to find a book filled with dozens of small black and white pictures you've seen better presented dozens of times before in other sources. Probably half the photos have nothing to do with New York and of those that do many are either of ships docked at NYC piers which don't look all that different from Boston piers or Philadelphia piers or ships shown against the scenic New Jersey shore of the Hudson. There are many familiar ship line postcards and brochure photo reproductions that looked much better in their original colors. One noteworthy inclusion is the dozen or so original photos of ships in NY harbor by the very talented Byron Huart. Many ocean liner / cruise ship enthusiasts are familiar with his work, usually much better presented in color. The text offers nothing new on the harbor or the individual ships. I wish I could be more positive.
This book details so very many ships in New York's history. For each vessel there is a photo with a concise history, which is enjoyable to reread. I read it the day it arrived and read it again the next day. John Fostik's writing style is clear and smooth. This is a book to treasure.
